I booked a standard king-size suite with breakfast included which was excellent! There was great variety of food in the beautiful dining area and the servers were so courteous, polite, and professional (especially Kalongo? (hope I spelled his name right)). Room service was quick and attentive. The room itself was huge and the king-size beds were very large and extremely comfortable. Blackout blinds ensured that I had deep and restful sleep to help me get over jet lag quickly. The marble bathroom was luxurious and the shower water pressure was excellent! Appreciated also having a soaker tub in addition to a stand-up shower. Ample towels were provided and the bathrobe was nice touch. Location was quiet and serene, and perfect for me as I was attending a family wedding in a location only 2 minutes away from the hotel. The grounds were spectacular and a beautiful backdrop going for walks at anytime of the day. We attended the spa and were very well treated to a massage and nail care. My mom stayed in the nearby presidential suite which was top notch and great value for money. We were both blown away by how spacious the hotel rooms were the quality of service. We will definitely be returning to this hotel time and time again when future travel brings us to Johannesburg.

Easy to get cabs and uber around it. Very comfortable beds, AMAZING food and bar. Super friendly staff. Simply surreal experience, can’t recommend it enough!

Houghton Place is located in Johannesburg and offers modern and luxurious accommodation. Free WiFi access is available. The property has a lovely garden and outdoor pool. This is an exceptional guest house, beautifully laid out with great facilities, even with the current load shedding issues. Sam and Janice are wonderful hosts and Patricia and Shadie are great staff. Without doubt one of the finest stays that I have had around the world. Many "top class" hotels could learn lessons here. Rarely do you find an oasis such as this in a very hectic city. The surrounding area is also very classy and safe.

Located in Houghton, The Residence is a boutique hotel that offers spacious suites with a spa bath, and a balcony overlooking the garden, the tennis court or the outdoor pool. We loved the design of this hotel. It was like Ethan Allen had had a hand in decorating the public spaces - it was so perfectly boho British Colonial. We loved the cozy bar and the lush plantings on the grounds of the hotel. Also loved the breezeway with the coy pond on the way to the bar and restaurant. Our room was very comfortable. The staff was laid back while still being professional. We have stayed in many places in South Africa that were super-duper deluxe. We liked that The Residence felt more homey and comfortable without being over the top.

They paid attention to detail from the smell, how clean it was, providing a steamer, leaving a little shower gel for us, leaving a coffee, all cleaning equipment. In short I didn’t lack for anything
